Dozens of people visited Newport Harbor on Thursday to get an up close and personal look at a pair of 18th century ships that arrived in town this week.

Over the next two weeks, the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will be docked at the Newport Sea base, 1931 W. Coast Highway, as part of an educational tour to various California ports. The historical ships will stage cannon battles and host public tours for vistiors.

The Lady Washington is better know as the HMS Interceptor from the Disney movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl", starring Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, while the Hawaiian Chieftan is a replica of a 1800's merchant vessel that serves as Lady Washington's sailing partner.

Both ships, along with crews dressed in period costumes, will welcome visitors aboard on several days throughout the next two weeks. See our earlier story for the complete schedule and ticket information.
