The City Council recently recognized Lauren Portice and Jonathan Li, who were each recently awarded a $5,000 Disneyland Resort scholarship for their community service.
Portice, a resident of Laguna Niguel and student at JSerra Catholic High School, was recognized for her work with Sports Gift, an organization that collects and donates old sporting equipment to underprivileged children in the U.S. and around the world.
Li, also a Laguna Niguel resident and founder of the Orange County Math Circle, was recognized for using his love of mathematics to teach motivated students in underserved schools in Orange County how to explore advanced problem solving techniques.
Both are Laguna Niguel Patch's Whiz Kids this week.
